i love lists : listen here

I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen. – Ernest Hemingway

No siren did ever so charm the ear of the listener as the listening ear has charmed the soul of the siren. – Henry Taylor

This post is all about what I have been listening to lately. What we hear and what we choose to take in affects our state of mind, our mood, and our enjoyment. In the best cases, it spurs us on. I hope this following list can enrich your mind, bless your heart, and just make things fun!

Listen Collage 1

i love lists: sundays

Sundays. They’re some of the best days. Some people call Sundays the Lord’s Day.

Every day should center around the praise and worship of God. Every day we should wake up with grateful and humble hearts before our Maker, rejoicing that His mercies are new every morning. So, what’s so special about Sundays?

Sundays are special because it is a day that you can gather with other believers of God and worship Jesus TOGETHER. Gathering on Sunday morning is one particular expression of a life lived in continual worship of God. Scripture tells us to gather and to hear the reading of Scripture, to feast on the preaching and teaching of the Word. We can be singing hymns, praying together, and preparing our hearts to serve God in the week ahead. Sundays prepare us for a life lived in community and remind us of God’s amazing Gospel.

I have the distinct honor and pleasure of being married to a man gifted with musical abilities and leadership. I love how he leads our church family in songs of praise and worship to our King and Savior. He tries to pick songs that fit well with the Scripture we are going through. He also tries to pick songs that will stick with us throughout the week so we are encourging our hearts with melodies of truth and the Gospel. Today, I thought I’d share with you the music set he put together for The Fields this Sunday. So many people were encouraged by the theology of each song. It was a blessing for my heart as well.

sunday 10-11

Here’s the set and a link to the versions of each song on YouTube.

  1. Before the Throne
  2. All Creatures
  3. We are Here for You
  4. Behold our God
  5. Oh God
  6. Though You Slay Me
  7. Psalm 145

Please listen to each of the above songs and be blessed! Pray about the Lord’s Day – for the service, the music, the pastors, your own family, and yourself. Ask that the Lord be glorified and that there would be great expectation and anticipation for the gathering. Ask that each Sunday – and every day – would be all about Jesus. Amen.

gospel wednesday

GW

This week I have been dwelling on God’s generosity. He has been generous to me in so many ways: in providing me with Jesus, my Lord and my salvation; in giving me my sweetheart of a husband and loving family; in my church and in my home; in my job and finances; in His Word and the Holy Spirit; in the rocks that cry out; the list goes on and on.

In all of God’s generosity and the good gifts that He has given me, I need to remember to worship the Giver of the gifts and not the gifts themselves. I need to remember that amongst the many blessings that He has so lovingly given to me to steward, my soul is (and can only be) satisfied in HIM alone.

The hymn below is written my The Gettys and is titled, My Worth is Not in What I Own. Please follow this link to hear how beautifully it has been put to music. And see the lyrics below to encourage your soul. Your worth is fixed and your ransom is paid – at the cross! AMEN! He has been generous indeed!

My Worth is Not in What I Own

My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love
At the cross

My worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose, in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the cross

I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest Treasure,
Wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other.
My soul is satisfied in Him alone.

As summer flowers we fade and die
Fame, youth and beauty hurry by
But life eternal calls to us
At the cross

I will not boast in wealth or might
Or human wisdom’s fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ
At the cross

I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest Treasure,
Wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other.
My soul is satisfied in Him alone.

Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed – my ransom paid
At the cross

Isaiah 53:11 – “Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.”

gospel monday

Gospel Monday

This week I wanted to share a new song I’ve been really loving lately. It’s called Grace Alone by Dustin Kensrue from his latest album The Water and The Blood. You can listen to the whole album here!!!

I have been so touched and encouraged by all of the truth in the lyrics below. Please read and pay attention to what is being communicated. The words are so simple and at the same time, so profound. In short, the Gospel is so clearly and amazingly laid out in this song.

We rejoice that God has taken it upon Himself to call us to salvation and forgiveness. God has adopted us, predestined us, and called us His own. Please be encouraged and enjoy!

GRACE ALONE

I was an orphan lost at the fall
Running away when I’d hear your call
But Father, you worked your will

I had no righteousness of my own
I had no right to draw near your throne
But Father, you loved me still

And in love before you laid the world’s foundation
You predestined to adopt me as your own
You have raised me so high u above my station
I’m a child of God by grace and grace alone

You left your home to seek out the lost
You knew the great and terrible cost
But Jesus, your face was set

I worked my fingers down to the bone
Nothing I did could ever atone
But Jesus, you paid my debt

By your blood I have redemption and salvation
Lord, you died that I might reap what you have sown
And you rose that I might be a new creation
I am born again by grace and grace alone

I was in darkness all of my life
I never knew the day from the night
But Spirit, you made me see

I swore I knew the way on my own
Head full of rocks, a heart made of stone
But Spirit, you moved in me

At your touch my sleeping spirit was awakened
On my darkened heart the light of Christ has shone
Called into a kingdom that cannot be shaken
Heaven’s citizen by grace and grace alone

So I’ll stand in faith by grace and grace alone
I will run the race by grace and grace alone
I will slay my sin by grace and grace alone
I will reach the end by grace and grace alone

How has God’s grace been worked out in your life?

Gospel Monday

I can’t get this new song, Made Alive by Citizens out of my head. It is packed with so much truth and reminds me of God’s deep love. Jesus BOUGHT us with His blood and SAVED us by His grace. We must believe and trust Him in this as our only hope. Please go listen to the song HERE.

I once was dead in sin
Alone and hopeless,
A child of wrath I walked
Condemned in darkness,
But your mercy brought new life
And in your love and kindness,
Raised me up with Christ
And made me righteous.

You have bought me back
With the riches of,
Your amazing grace
And relentless love.
I’m made alive forever,
With you, life forever
By your grace I’m saved,
By your grace I’m saved.

Lord, you are the light,
That broke the darkness.
You satisfy my soul,
When I am heartless.
If ever I forget
My true identity,
Show me who I am,
And help me to believe.

You have bought me back,
With the riches of,
Your amazing grace
And relentless love.
I’m made alive forever,
With you, life forever,
By your grace I’m saved,
By your grace I’m saved.

My sin has been erased,
I’ll never be the same.
My sin has been erased,
I’ll never be the same.

So good!!! Enjoy this week and trust in the Lord with all your heart.

all glory be to Christ

Screen Shot 2012-12-26 at 11.01.26 PM

This is a song is sung to the famous tune of “Auld Lang Syne” but with new and amazing lyrics! It gives me chills every time. Enjoy!

All Glory Be To CHRIST

Should nothing of our efforts stand
No legacy survive
Unless the Lord does raise the house
In vain its builders strive

To you who boast tomorrow’s gain
Tell me what is your life
A mist that vanishes at dawn
All glory be to Christ!

All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign will ever sing
All glory be to Christ!

His will be done
His kingdom come
On earth as is above
Who is Himself our daily bread
Praise Him the Lord of love

Let living water satisfy
The thirsty without price
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
All glory be to Christ!

All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign will ever sing
All glory be to Christ!

When on the day the great I Am
The faithful and the true
The Lamb who was for sinners slain
Is making all things new

Behold our God shall live with us
And be our steadfast light
And we shall ere his people be
All glory be to Christ!

All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign will ever sing
All glory be to Christ!
