subtly sweet iced green tea with mint

iced tea 3.jpg

HELLO! It’s Springtime in California and I think I have thoroughly enjoyed the season so far.

There has been a few days of rain: listening to the drops coming down on the roof, baking to warm the house and our tummies, and still wearing my boots to keep my feet cozy.

There has also been a few days of hot sun: walking by the beach gaining more freckles, lunch in shorts and a tank top, and iced coffee because its too warm for hot.

iced tea 1.jpg

Because it is going to start getting warmer before we know it, I wanted to share an iced tea recipe with you! In honor of this beautiful springtime season, this iced tea has some of my most favorite refreshing flavors going on: green tea, blueberry, lemon, mint, and a hint of sweetness from the agave!

iced tea 2 .jpg

  • 7 cups boiling water
  • 3 cups cool water
  • 12 ice cubes (plus more for serving)
  • 1/4 cup agave syrup
  • 8-10 green teabags, depending on how strong you like your tea (I used blueberry green tea, but you could even use an herbal or black tea)
  • 1 lemon, cut into thin slices
  • 1-3 sprigs of fresh mint
  • 1 large heat-resistant pitcher or container

iced tea time.jpg

  1. Pour the agave syrup in the bottom of a large heat-resistant pitcher or container.
  2. Place tea bags in a large tea ball and hang it into your pitcher so it is suspended. Pour the 7 cups of boiling water over the tea ball and let it steep for 5-7 minutes (the longer you steep the tea, the stronger it will get).
  3. Remove the tea ball from the hot water. Let the tea sit and cool for 10-15 minutes. Then add the 3 cups of cool water and ice cubes.
  4. Stir the tea well then add the lemon slices. Let the tea cool overnight, covered in the fridge. Remove lemons before serving.
  5. Serve iced tea cold with springs of fresh mint, lots of ice, and in TALL glasses. ENJOY!

I think I’ll go have a glass now. Read my books. Journal my thoughts. Plan my work. And drink it all in!

gospel wednesday

Dear friends,

This week I was honored to share the Gospel with someone new. I met her a couple of days ago and we instantly clicked. We both felt so comfortable opening up with one another and sharing our stories.

She is in her twenties and is beautiful. She has a 5 year old son. She has a tattoo with deep meaning and significance. She is separated from the father of her child. She lives with her parents. She has a successful and enjoyable career. More importantly, she is compassionate, sensitive, and searching for goodness. More importantly, she needs a Jesus – who has every bit of the goodness she’s trying to see.

We had a great time talking about family, friends, life, and eventually…God. I got to share a little bit of my story with her. I told her that my parents didn’t have the intention to raise me to become a Christian, but, by God’s grace, that is what happened.

I told her that I was not looking for God, but I can see now that He always had plans for me. I told her how I was invited to church by a friend out of the blue and it changed my life forever. God found me, saved me, and I simply believed. Then I got to tell her what that meant, to be saved.

Being saved is all about Jesus. Jesus opens our eyes to the rebellion and sin in our lives. The sin in our hearts, minds, past, and present. Jesus lived a perfect life and never sinned, which we can never do. Jesus reveals to us the wages of our sin – death. Jesus died on the cross, in our place, for ALL of our sins. Jesus loves us, forgives us, purifies us, sets us free, and gives us new and eternal life. Jesus rose from the dead and conquered all sin and death forevermore. Jesus will return and set all things new. Jesus is our Lord, protector, and friend.

Romans 6:23 says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In every humans search for goodness and grace, we do not have to look any further than the cross of Christ. That is GOOD news.

I hope that this young woman sees God in a new light through our conversation. I pray that she would believe the Gospel and put all of her hope and trust in Jesus. All glory goes to God above!

Like I said earlier, it was an honor to share the gospel with someone new this week. It was an honor to spend time with her, get to know her heart, and care for her soul. God is always good and I pray her eyes will be opened to that truth.

gospel wednesday

It’s what I don’t deserve.

It’s what I can never have too much of.

It’s what is always there no matter how far I wander.

My heart is drawn out in thankfulness to thee,

for thy amazing grace and condescension to me

in influences and assistances of thy Spirit,

for special help in prayer,

for the sweetness of Christian service,

for the thoughts of arriving in heaven,

for always sending me needful supplies,

for raising me to new life when I am like the one dead.

I want not the favour of man to lean upon

for thy favour is infinitely better.

Thou art eternal wisdom in dispensations toward me;

and it matters not when, nor where, nor how I serve thee,

nor what trials I am exercised with,

if I might but be prepared for thy work and will.

No poor creature stands in divine grace more than I do,

and yet none abuses it more than I have done, and still do.

How heartless and dull I am!

Humble me in the dust for not loving thee more.

Every time I exercise any grace renewedly

I am renewedly indebted to thee,

the God of all grace, for special assistance.

I cannot boast when I think how dependent I am upon thee

            for the being and every aspect of grace;

I never do anything else but depart from thee,

and if I ever get to heaven it will be because thou willest it,

                        and for no reason beside.

I love as a feeble, afflicted, despised creature,

to cast myself on thy infinite grace and goodness,

                        hoping for no happiness but from thee;

Give me special grace to fit me for special services,

and keep me calm and resigned at all times,

                        mortified, and

                        conformed to thy will.

– A collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions

This  prayer came from a book called Valley of Vision. My family likes to read it before we go to bed. Maybe you could do the same!?

I just loved this prayer because it reminded me of where grace comes from. How grace should make me feel. What grace does is my life. Why I am even given grace to begin with.

It’s ALL because of Jesus. Jesus died on the cross to forgive my sins and He rose again to give me new life. I feel humbled to know that Jesus would take on all the wrath that sin produces and put it to shame and death. This amazing grace means I will see Him someday; I will meet Him and rejoice! He is so good!

How have you seen God’s amazing grace in your life?
