Gospel Monday

Matthew 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

What is your treasure? Where is your heart? These are soul-searching questions.

The fact of the matter is, there is something so precious that is worth more than all the gold, jewels and luxuries of this world. That “something” is Jesus. And Jesus gives us the glorious gospel!

I am continually praying that the Lord would help me make Jesus my treasure every single day. I ask that He would make Jesus absolutely precious to me. I can become so easily distracted by the things of this world: money, houses, cars, clothing, lifestyle. Basically, the idea that there is something bigger and better than what I have right now can negatively influence me and rob me of the joy I have found in Christ. Living in a culture of luxury and comparison, I, at times, begin to treasure those things MORE than I treasure my Jesus who has saved me from my sins. Then I begin to ponder my contentment and ask myself, “Why isn’t the grace of God enough for me right now?”

Jesus is God. He came to earth and died for our high-handed rebellious sins. He victoriously  rose from the dead and defeated sin and death. He took the wrath that we so justly deserved and He gave us His righteousness. He is coming again to make all things new and set things right. Amen!

I need to preach myself this glorious Gospel every single moment. I need to remind myself that His grace IS enough…it’s more than enough, in fact. I may not ever have a big beautiful home with all the comforts life has to offer. I may not ever be able to give my children all that I want to (financially). I may not ever be able to take all the best vacations and wear the latest fashions. The list could go on and on. However, as tempting as it may be, these things should never and can never become my treasure! By the grace of God, my treasure is and always will be JESUS.

He is more than enough.
